What is Organic Certification?
Definition
or Organic Certification
Organic certification is a process audited on an annual basis by U.S. Government,
according to the the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990, for producers
of organic foods, crops, and other organic agricultural products.
Clarkson Grain has had Organic Certification since 1998.
In general, any business directly involved in food production
can be certified, including seed suppliers, farmers, food processors,
retailers and restaurants. Requirements vary from country to country,
and generally involve a set of standards for growing, storing, processing,
packaging and shipping. Synthetic chemical inputs are prohibited,
such as fertilizer, pesticides, antibiotics, food additives, genetically
modified organisms (GMOs), irradiation, and the use of sewage sludge.
